Well-wishers Applaud Vision at Lewis-Gale Imaging Center Groundbreaking

Uplifted spirits gave the blustery March day a lilt during the Tuesday groundbreaking for a $5 million, nearly 20,000-square-foot building that will house the Lewis-Gale Imaging Center and physician practice at Daleville Town Center.

After years of planning and a delay caused by unusually snowy weather, construction of what will be the first and only freestanding diagnostic imaging center in Botetourt County within Southwestern Virginia’s first and only traditional neighborhood development is off to a great start. Dalevile Town Center developer Fralin & Waldron Inc. will be the general contractor in the construction of the Lewis-Gale Imaging Center building.

When completed in May 2011, the 3,100-square-foot imaging center will offer state-of-the-art general radiology services (X-rays), ultrasound and CT services in a spa-like environment. The facility also will include 5,000 square feet for physician office space. The remainder of the building will be available to businesses that complement the values of the new Daleville Town Center community and its health care offerings.

Yesterday’s ceremonies included remarks by Victor E. Giovanetti, HCA Southwest Virginia president, and Karen Waldron, Fralin & Waldron president and chief executive officer. Both espoused the shared vision and partnership for an imaging center that will improve access to quality health care for residents of Daleville Town Center and to Botetourt County at large.

Stephen P. Clinton, vice chairman of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, praised Fralin & Waldron’s vision for a traditional neighborhood development. He called it “an innovative and thoughtful approach to mixed-used development” that is reminiscent of the self-contained neighborhood villages of the past.

“F&W’s vision here at Daleville Town Center was to create an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sensitive and functionally efficient development (designed to satisfy) the full range of needs for living in the 21st century. One of those needs, an essential one, is health care,” said Mr. Clinton.

Nearly 100 groundbreaking well wishers included members of the Botetourt business community, county officials, civic leaders and residents. They also applauded Williams Lighting Gallery, which joined Fralin & Waldron corporate offices at the first Daleville Town Center commercial building, opening a showroom there.

Gerri Hill, a resident of Cypress Court about 5 miles from Daleville Town Center, was among the attendees. The retired Tazewell, Va., schoolteacher moved to the area six years ago to live closer to her two sisters, all of whom have an increasing need for medical care. Ms. Hill said she expects their internal practice physician, Dr. Steven Ridout of Bonsack Family Care, to make use of the imaging center. And she told this roving reporter that the proximity of the new imaging center will be a great savings of time and money for her.

After a gourmet lunch by the Fincastle Schaal’s Catering in Fralin & Waldron's new corporate offices, guests wished the Lewis-Gale Imaging Center and Daleville Town Center the best of luck!

Lewis-Gale prepares to break ground

Lewis-Gale Medical Center is preparing to break ground on a two-story, 20,000-square-foot medical office building at Daleville Town Center early in 2010. The $5 million building will house an imaging center and physician offices. “A medical building is something we’ve long contemplated – it fits perfectly with the vision of the Daleville Town Center – and we’re pleased to be partnering with HCA (Hospital Corporation of America),” said Stephen Claytor, vice president of development, Fralin and Waldron Inc.
